She switched off the TV and stood up from the couch when she heard them talking and making their way to the townhouse. She looked out of the window and did not only see his parents but also another family member, probably an uncle.

It was hot so that she had closed the door and switched on the air conditioner. She heard the gate and door open and slowly walked to the kitchen entrance.

She knelt in front of them.

‘Ẹ káàsán, mà, Ẹ káàsán, sà,’ she greeted.

They returned the greeting and Femi’s mother embraced her when she stood up. Mrs Adewoye was impressed with her gesture and told her that she was happy to finally meet her.

Femi did the introductions and his uncle said something in Yoruba that they all seemed to agree with. He had a small gap between his two front teeth, similar to Femi’s mother, so she figured that he was her brother.

‘He’s saying that your husband has a good eye,’ Mrs Adewoye was sweet enough to translate.

‘Baby,’ Femi whispered to her, ‘please take them to the lounge while I unload their luggage from the car.’

She nodded and did as he asked.
